Is This the Beginning of the End For Bottled Water?

By: Peter Foremski

The small town in Australia called Bundanoon has come to prominence for proclaiming itself as the first place in the world to ban bottled water.

What prompted the townsfolk to take action was an attempt by a large drinks company to put the town's perfectly drinkable water into large tankers. These were to be taken a short distance to a bottling plant and then re sold to the locals as bottled water.

This type of conning the public was the last straw for these residents and they are now fighting a legal battle to stop this type of water extraction taking place.

But, there's an environmental point here also as globally, consumers are becoming more aware of the damage caused to our planet from tons of rotting plastic on land and in the oceans.

The waste we create is something that many governments are trying to tackle and when you think about the resources and energy used to extract, bottle, transport and sell bottled water you quickly realize is it all worth it.
Even the latest economic studies are showing a drop in consumption within many areas like Western Europe. Places like the UK have seen a fall of about 9% as we wake up to the relatively high cost of consuming water in this fashion.

Whilst many still say that it's better than the tap variety, the fact is you can ensure getting cleaner water by installing a water filter system. Well chosen these are quite economical these days and, when looked at over the long term makes them a no brainer.
